The Cavalry Scout is responsible for being the eyes and ears of the commander during battle. They engage the enemy in the field, track and report their activity and direct the employment of weapon systems to their locations. Their job duties include but are not limited to: securing and preparing ammunition on three different scout vehicles, the high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle (HMMWV), the Bradley Fighting Vehicle (BFV), and the STRYKER; perform navigation during combat situations; report information on terrain, weather and the enemy, preparing the commander to employ the correct assets; and collect data to classify routes, tunnels and bridges, allowing the commander to properly utilize his or her personnel and equipment to accomplish any mission.

Total compensation includes housing, medical, food, special pay, and vacation time.
